I am not going to post any poem this time. This post is just a tribute to all ladies i.e . wives and mothers who painstakingly balance life and struggles. This women are important part of our busy lives. Imagining a day without them is worst nightmare. I have realized this many times before and after my marriage. But today after bruising my little finger due to accidental touch of hot vessel and preparing dinner and next day breakfast, I was amazed how mum would manage all these tasks especially preparing separate dishes to satisfy the tastes of every member of the house. Fortunately ours was nuclear family and later this practice was stopped.
However this practice of preparing dishes for every member of family is still practiced in conventional households. Maybe 80% of us were instilled by our society that their first duty is to be 'Masterchef' of the house and be expert or I can say we have to blame ourselves that we have given liberty to our loved ones to prepare their favorite dishes and we haven't gotten them accustomed to these liberties.
Being Masterchef was just a part of her duty, she is part time janitor, finance manager, housekeeper (in case domestic worker is not employed) and teacher. She has to perform these roles irrespective whether she has day job or not. She does it 24/7 and she has no paid leaves or public holidays or sick leaves.I have one good question to all of us including me- Have we ever substituted her role with her for a day? I haven't. But when you are in one's shoes, you realize and it is too late.
We have taken them for granted many times. We have thrown our frustration on them. We have shared our sorrows as well as happiness to them. But we have never asked them their wants and desires. Daughters understand their mother once they become wives. But what about sons? Still our traditional Indian society feel pride over the sons. Thus they never realize the worth of their mothers and expect their wives to substitute this role.
Things are changing now with years passing by. The 'womanly' tasks are no longer confined to women. But there are still some things that can be changed. A smile or 'thank you' or even tiniest appreciation can bring them joy.
